Foundation stains are a tricky one. With their oily and pigmented nature, it can be difficult to work out best way to get rid of them from your linens. When standard laundering techniques aren't enough, there are still ways you can tackle these stubborn spots.

Pre-Treating The Stain

The first step is to pre-treat stain before attempting to wash it. This is done by wetting the stained area with lukewarm water and then dabbing the spot gently with a cloth or paper towel. This helps to loosen the stains and get them ready for further action.

Next, you need to apply a pre-treatment agent directly to the spot. This can be either a laundry detergent specifically designed for pre-treating or a spot remover like rubbing alcohol or white vinegar. These agents are effective in breaking down oils and pigments, allowing them to be washed away more easily.

Finally, cover the pre-treated area with a damp cloth and let sit for 10 minutes. This helps the pre-treatment solution penetrate deep into the fabric and soften the stains ahead of laundering.

Laundering and Drying

Once the pre-treatment process is complete, it's time to laundry the linen as per normal. Where possible, use the hottest setting that is safe for the fabric in order to remove as much of the stain as possible. In addition, consider using a laundry booster such as oxygen bleach, which can help lift any remaining stains.

After laundering, make sure to dry the linen immediately to avoid the stain setting. Avoid tumble dryers as the heat can set any remaining stains. Instead, hang the items outside in direct sunlight or indoors on a drying rack.

Extra Tips

In some cases, the fabric might become discolored after laundering. This is due to the pre-treatment agent; try to choose something that is color-safe like white vinegar or oxygen bleach. If the area is still discolored, opt for a color-safe bleach or professional dry cleaning.

Lastly, if you are dealing with a stubborn stain that won't shift no matter what you do, seek help from a professional laundry service. They have the tools and expertise to tackle even the toughest foundation stains!
