Before tackling foundation stain, treat the fabric with a spot cleaning solution. If you don’t have any spot cleaner available, you can also use a simple mixture of water and liquid dish soap. Spray the mixture onto the affected area using a spray bottle. Let it sit for a few minutes.
Using a soft bristled brush, gently scrub the fabric to loosen the stain. Once the stain is loosened, rinse off the spot cleaner or dish soap solution with cool water. Take care not to wet the surrounding fabric.
If there is still some of the foundation stain leftover, repeat steps two and three. If the foundation stain is still present, mix a dry-cleaning detergent solution as directed. Make sure that any solution you use is made for fabrics like gingham. Apply the detergent to the stain by spraying it directly onto the affected area. Blot the stain with a white cloth and allow it to sit for 15 minutes.
Once the stain has been removed, rinse off detergent with cold water. Allow the fabric to air-dry completely before applying heat or any other chemicals. Once the fabric is dry, inspect the area to make sure that the stain has been completely removed.
With right cleaning knowledge and supplies, removing foundation stains from gingham fabric doesn't need to be a daunting task. It's important to remember to always test the cleaning solution on a hidden portion of fabric first, to make sure that it won't cause any damage.
