Before you begin removing foundation stains, make sure the jacket is clean and the stain is dry. If it’s wet, gently blot with a paper towel until area is just damp. Make sure there is no excess water remaining or the stain could spread.
Mix a small amount of dishwashing detergent with warm water in a bowl and apply to the fabric with a soft-bristled brush. Let detergent sit for five minutes before continuing to the next step.
Set your washing machine to a gentle cycle, using cold water and a mild detergent. Place down jacket in the washer and let cycle complete. You may want to run a second rinse cycle depending on the severity of the stain.
After washing, allow the down jacket to air-dry. To speed up the process, place it in the dryer on lowest setting and add a few tennis balls to the drum. This will help break up any clumps of down that form during the cycle.
If any stain remains after washing, repeat steps two through four.
