The first step when it comes to eliminating foundation or any other kind of stain is to pre-treat it right away. Every few minutes, the stain becomes harder to remove, so it’s important to act quickly. The best pre-treatment options are a specialized stain remover or laundry detergent. If you choose to use a stain remover, soak the affected area for five minutes and then rinse with warm water. If you opt to use laundry detergent, apply it on the stain and let it soak for around ten minutes before rinsing.
After pre-treating the stain, it’s time to put the capris in the washing machine. Make sure to check the garment's label to see whether it can be machine washed — if not, you’ll need to take it to the dry cleaners. Before washing, add an oxygen-based bleach, like OxiClean, into load. This product will help lift the stain more effectively. After that’s done, set the machine to its warmest setting and add detergent according to the instructions on the package. You can also throw in a tablespoon of salt, which will help break down the stain even further.
Once the cycle has finished, give capris a thorough examination to see how foundation stain looks. If it didn’t come clean, you may need to repeat steps outlined above - although this time, make sure to use a stronger product and longer soaking times. When the stain is completely gone, hang capris out in the sun to dry. Don’t forget to turn them inside out — the sun helps remove any remaining stubborn stains.
