If you’re dealing with stubborn foundation stains, mix equal parts baking soda and dish soap, adding just enough water to make a paste. Then, apply the paste to the barrette and leave on for about 5 minutes before scrubbing it off with a toothbrush.

For fabric-based barrettes, or those with fabric designs, mix one tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent with a bit of warm water and gently rub the stained areas with a soft cloth. Once the stain has been removed, rinse the barrette well and let it air dry or, if the fabric is delicate, dry it with a clean towel.

When it comes to metal barrettes, use a plastic scouring pad or brush to scrub away any stubborn foundation stains. Or, you can mix a tablespoon of baking soda with enough water to make a paste and use a q-tip to apply it to the barrette. Let it sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing. If there’s still residue left, mix a little lemon juice and salt together and use a cotton ball to apply it to barrette.
