Foundation is an essential makeup base that is often used to even out skin tone and to provide a smooth finish. But getting foundation on clothes isn't the best and most especially when it's already stained on your delicate and expensive ball gown!
Before attempting to remove foundation stains from your ball gown, you must pre-treat the affected area with a detergent. Try soaking the garment in a basin filled with cold water and 1-2 tablespoons of mild detergent. Once the gown has soaked for several hours, rinse it thoroughly to remove any remaining detergent.
After the pre-treatment, you may now begin removing the foundation stains on your ball gown. Start by gently scrubbing it with a soft, damp cloth using a small amount of washing up liquid. The trick is to not rub too hard so as not to damage the fabric. After scrubbing affected area, rinse the gown with cold running water.
The next step is to use a specialized stain remover product specifically designed for removing foundation. Follow the instructions on the product’s packaging and allow the solution to sit on stain for the allotted time. If the foundation stain still remains, apply more of remover and allow it to work for longer this time.
Once the stain has been successfully removed, wash the gown according to its care label instructions. For best results, line-dry the garment instead of using a tumble dryer. Avoid ironing stained area until the fabric is completely dry. Otherwise, heat may set the stain further into fabric.
Removing foundation stains from ball gowns may be a daunting task. But with the help of pre-treatment and stain remover products, you can easily make your ball gown look as good as new. So no need to worry if you come across this unfortunate situation!
