The first step to removing any stain is to deal with any excess moisture that might have pooled onto the fabric. This helps to prevent the stain from spreading any further and becoming harder to remove.
Using a dry cloth or paper towel, gently blot the area to absorb any liquid. Be careful not to rub, as this can spread the stain.
Once you have blotted up as much liquid as you can, you can begin pre-treating stain. There are several commercial stain removers available for purchase, but you can also make an effective stain pre-treatment using items that you likely already have in your home.
Mix equal parts white vinegar, baking soda, and water in a bowl or cup. Gently stir the mixture until it forms a paste. Then, using a clean cloth or a sponge, apply the paste directly to the stained area. Allow the mixture to sit for at least 15 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Once you’ve pre-treated the stain, you can begin washing the uniform. Depending on the type of fabric, you may want to use cold water and a gentle detergent. Be sure to check the care label on garment to ensure that you are using the right temperature.
If the stain is still visible after washing, it is best to repeat steps two and three. After you have washed and dried the uniform, you can inspect the area to make sure that the stain has been removed.
No matter how embarrassing, accidents happen. However, if you follow the steps outlined above, you can make short work of removing fecal stains from uniforms. Remember to treat the area as soon as possible and to use the correct water temperature when laundering the garment.
