Removing Fresh Feces Stains

If the feces stain is still wet, start by scraping off any excess fecal matter that may be on the fabric. Be sure to scrape in a downward motion, away from fabric's fibers. This will help minimize the damage of the fabric.

Then, fill a bucket or bowl with cold water and add a mild detergent. Place stained area of the fabric into the mixture and swish gently. Leave the fabric submerged for about fifteen minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Once the fabric has been rinsed, rub natural white vinegar into stain and launder as you normally would. Air-dry the garment when finished.

Removing Dried Feces Stains

When your traditional dress is covered in dried feces, it may seem like all hope is lost. However, all is not lost! Start by wetting the fabric with cool water and rubbing some laundry detergent into the stain. Rub the detergent into the fabric for several minutes until the stain begins to dissolve. Rinse the fabric with cool water.

Once the fabric has been rinsed, use a soft brush to scrub the stain with a solution of equal parts hydrogen peroxide and warm water. Let the solution sit for two or three minutes, then rinse with cool water.

Finally, rub white vinegar into stain and launder as you normally would. Air-dry the garment when finished.

Tips for Removing Feces Stains

  • Always test a small inconspicuous area of the fabric with any cleaning solution to check for discoloration.
  • Never use hot water as this can set the stain further into the fabric.
  • Avoid using chlorine bleach or detergents containing bleach as this can cause discoloration.
