Things You'll Need
- Bucket or sink
- Hot water
- Mild detergent
- Baking soda
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Cleaning cloth
Instructions
- Fill the bucket or sink with hot, soapy water and swirl around to mix. Use enough detergent to make a few suds. The hotter and soapsier the better for removing severe stains.
- Soak the toy in the bucket or sink for 10-15 minutes. This will allow enough time for the soap and water to penetrate the fibers and break down the feces.
- Scrub the toy with a cleaning cloth to help remove tough stains. Don’t be too aggressive or risk damaging the toy.
- If the harder scrubbing method didn’t work, try sprinkling baking soda over stain. Rub the baking soda into fabric with a cloth and let it sit for 10-20 minutes before rinsing with hot water.
- For more difficult stains, try using 3% hydrogen peroxide. Apply solution directly to stain and let it sit for about 30 minutes before rinsing with hot water. If the stain persists, repeat the process.
- Air dry the toy and inspect for any remaining stains. If necessary, repeat above steps until the stain is removed.
Tips
- Be sure to read the care instructions for the toy before beginning. Certain materials may require special attention.
- White vinegar can be used as an alternative to hydrogen peroxide as both are effective in breaking down stains.
- Sprinkle baking soda or a non-toxic powder cleaner on the toy and agitate vigorously. Let powder sit for 15 minutes before vacuuming up.
Warnings
- Don't use bleach or harsh chemicals on the toy. Bleach can damage the material and may not remove the stain completely.
- Do not use hot water if the toy is made of plastic or rubber. Hot water can cause these materials to warp.
