Things You'll Need

  • Bucket or sink
  • Hot water
  • Mild detergent
  • Baking soda
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Cleaning cloth

Instructions

  1. Fill the bucket or sink with hot, soapy water and swirl around to mix. Use enough detergent to make a few suds. The hotter and soapsier the better for removing severe stains.
  2. Soak the toy in the bucket or sink for 10-15 minutes. This will allow enough time for the soap and water to penetrate the fibers and break down the feces.
  3. Scrub the toy with a cleaning cloth to help remove tough stains. Don’t be too aggressive or risk damaging the toy.
  4. If the harder scrubbing method didn’t work, try sprinkling baking soda over stain. Rub the baking soda into fabric with a cloth and let it sit for 10-20 minutes before rinsing with hot water.
  5. For more difficult stains, try using 3% hydrogen peroxide. Apply solution directly to stain and let it sit for about 30 minutes before rinsing with hot water. If the stain persists, repeat the process.
  6. Air dry the toy and inspect for any remaining stains. If necessary, repeat above steps until the stain is removed.

Tips

  • Be sure to read the care instructions for the toy before beginning. Certain materials may require special attention.
  • White vinegar can be used as an alternative to hydrogen peroxide as both are effective in breaking down stains.
  • Sprinkle baking soda or a non-toxic powder cleaner on the toy and agitate vigorously. Let powder sit for 15 minutes before vacuuming up.

Warnings

  • Don't use bleach or harsh chemicals on the toy. Bleach can damage the material and may not remove the stain completely.
  • Do not use hot water if the toy is made of plastic or rubber. Hot water can cause these materials to warp.
