Step 1: Blot the Stain Using Paper Towels

The first step you should take is to blot up as much of the stain as possible with paper towels. This will help remove some of the liquid and minimize any spread of the stain.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain with a Detergent Solution

Next, create a detergent solution using 1 teaspoon of laundry detergent and 1 cup of cold water. Then, dip a sponge into the solution and apply it directly to the stained area. Work it in with your fingers and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Step 3: Apply a Specialty Stain Remover

For tougher stains, you may need to apply a specialty stain remover or pre-treatment powder. Some of these can be found at your local grocery store, but you may need to ask an employee for assistance in finding right product.

Step 4: Wash Garment in Hot Water

Once you have pre-treated the stain, you can proceed to wash it normally. Place the garment in a washing machine filled with hot water, and add appropriate amount of laundry detergent. If the item is delicate, use a gentle cycle otherwise opt for a normal cycle.

Step 5: Hang Item to Air Dry

To preserve the fabric and its color, avoid placing thongs in a dryer. Instead, hang the item outdoors or indoors on a clothesline to air dry.
