Whether you’ve found yourself with a surprise poop stain on your clothes or you have a memorable token of potty training your toddler, unwanted feces stains can be removed from clothing with right approach. Follow these steps to remove feces stains and get your clothes looking their best.

Step 1: Scrape Up Any Excess Feces

Before you start dealing with the stain, use a butter knife or spoon to scrape up any excess feces from the fabric. If the poop has dried onto the fabric, dip the fabric in warm water and then scrape off stain. Avoid using hot water, as it may set stain and make it harder to remove.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain With Detergent

Gently rub a liquid laundry detergent into the stain using your fingers or a soft cloth. Be sure to allow the detergent to penetrate the fibers of the fabric, working it deep into the stain. Let the detergent sit on the stain for several minutes.

Step 3: Rinse Stain With Water

Rinse the pre-treated area with warm water, being careful not to spread the stain further. Continue rinsing until all traces of the detergent have been washed away.

Step 4: Treat the Stain With an Enzyme Detergent

Mix a solution of enzyme detergent and cool water and pour over stain. This type of detergent is ideal for removing organic stains, so it's perfect for getting poop out of clothes. Allow the detergent to sit on the stain for 15 minutes or as directed by the manufacturer.

Step 5: Rinse Stain Again

Rinse the enzyme detergent off with cold water. At this point, you should notice the stain has faded significantly.

Step 6: Cover the Stain With Ammonia

Once you have rinsed the stain, cover it with ammonia and let it sit for several minutes. Ammonia is a natural stain remover and is ideal for breaking down organic stains such as feces.

Step 7: Wash the T-Shirt as Normal

Once you’ve treated the stain, wash the garment as normal using the hottest water recommended for the fabric. Dry as usual and check for any remaining stain.
