Start by running the stained area under cold water. Avoid using hot water as that tends to permanently set the stain. Make a solution of detergent and water and gently scrub stained area with a soft cloth. Work the mixture into fabric in circular motions using a light touch to avoid making the stain bigger.
Once you’ve worked the detergent and water mixture into the fabric, rinse off the mixture thoroughly. Make sure you rinse until all of the cleaning solution is gone.
Store-bought spot cleaners are widely available. If possible, buy one that specifically states it’s made for swimwear. Read directions and follow them carefully. For best results, dab a bit of the cleaner onto a clean, dry soft cloth and use that to treat the stained area. Again, work the cleaner into the fabric in circular motions using a light touch.
Finally, put the item in the washing machine and use the cold, gentle cycle. Don’t add any other items of clothing or laundry detergent as the spot cleaner may be enough to clean item. Hang it up to air dry and inspect the area again for any remaining stains.
