Step 1: Rinse and Soak the Stain Immediately

As soon as you spot the stain, rinse it off with cold water. Make sure the water is cold, as hot water can cause stain to set in. To further remove stain, soak the area with a stain remover or laundry detergent solution.

Step 2: Scrub the Stained Area

Scrub the stained area with a brush or cloth to help loosen the stain. Work in circles, moving outward from the center of the stain. Continue scrubbing until the stain starts to disappear.

Step 3: Wash the Sweatshirt in Cold Water

After scrubbing, rinse the area with cold water once more and then put the sweatshirt in washing machine with a load of cold water. Use a mild laundry detergent, like Tide Free & Gentle, and add it to the wash cycle.

Step 4: Dry and Air Out the Sweatshirt

Once the cycle is finished, air dry the sweatshirt on a clothes line. Do not place it in the dryer, as high heat may set stain even further.

Tips for Pre-Treating Feces Stains

  • To prevent feces stains from setting in, pre-treat the area of the stain with a laundry detergent that contains enzymes, such as Tide Plus Febreze Freshness Sport.
  • If the stain does set in, attempt to remove it with a stain remover or bleach alternative.
  • Make sure your washing machine is clean so bacteria from the stain do not spread to other items in the washer.
