The first step is identifying the source of the stain. If the feces stain is fresh, with no other substances or liquid, the process is much simpler. If however, the stain has been there for some time, is accompanied by another substance or liquid, and/or is largely dried up, it may require more effort.

Once you have identified source of the stain and made sure it is as fresh as possible, begin the cleaning process by testing a small area of the fabric. Apply a small amount of the cleaning solution of your choice, such as a detergent specifically formulated for silk, onto the fabric and wait a few moments before rinsing area thoroughly. Alternatively, you can apply a mixture of water and white vinegar.

If the test reveals that the solution did not cause any discoloration, then proceed to the stain removal. Start by pretreating the stain by applying a cleaning solution directly onto the area. Then, use a clean white cloth and delicately blot the affected fabric until the stain is removed. Never rub the fabric as this may cause further damage.

Once the stain is completely gone, rinse the entire area thoroughly and let it air dry before using a hot iron for added safety. Should any remnants remain, repeat the steps above until the stain is removed.

Silk fabric is delicate, so handle it gently and be careful not to cause any more damage. With these easy steps, you will be able to clean feces stains from your precious Shantung with ease.
