The first step in removing feces is to scrape off any residue on the fabric with a spatula or dull knife. Then, soak fabric in a bucket filled with cold water and a gentle detergent for 10 to 15 minutes. Be sure to swish the fabric around in the detergent solution to help loosen any remaining stains. Afterward, rinse fabric in cold water to remove the detergent residue.
Once you have scraped off any debris and soaked the fabric, it's time to create a detergent solution to help get rid of the feces stains. Mix 1 tablespoon of laundry detergent in 1 quart of warm water. Dip a soft cloth into the detergent solution and gently rub it onto the stained area. Let the detergent sit on the stain for at least five minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.
If the stains are still not coming out, you may want to try using a stain remover. Start by testing the stain remover on an inconspicuous area of scarf to make sure it won't cause any damage. If test is successful, apply the stain remover directly to stained area and let it sit for 10 minutes. Afterwards, rinse away the stain remover with cold water and repeat the process if necessary.
Once you are done cleaning the scarf, be sure to lay it flat on a clean towel to air dry. You can also hang the scarf to dry, but make sure to avoid direct sunlight or heat as this could cause stains to become permanent.
