If you encounter a fresh poopy mess on your raincoat, the best thing to do is to immediately rinse it with cold water. This will help minimize the staining and keep the mess manageable. After rinsing, apply a good washing detergent and start rubbing to create a lather. Rub detergent in and across the fabric in circular motions. Scrub until the stain disappears.
If the feces have dried on the fabric, prepare a solution of one tablespoon of bleach and one quart of warm water. Dip a washcloth or soft-bristled brush in the solution and rub or scrub the affected area until the stain is gone. Rinse the raincoat afterwards with cold water to remove any bleach residue.
In some cases, stain may be stubborn and not come off easily. In such cases, you can use a stronger cleaning solution. Fill a bucket with one gallon of warm water and add one cup of ammonia and ½ cup of laundry detergent. Place the stained area of the raincoat into the solution and swish it around for 10 minutes. Rinse the material in cold water and check if the stain is gone. Repeat this process as needed until the stain is removed.
