Removing Feces Stains from Peau de Soie

Before beginning, examine care label for the fabric content of your item, as some fabrics may require different methods of treatment than those described here. Any fabric label indicating “dry clean only” must not be washed in water.

Be sure to scrape away any excess solid matter and flush away as much of the area as possible. Mix a solution of detergent and lukewarm water in a bowl. If using a store-bought detergent, be sure to choose a type that is suitable for delicate fabrics. If successful, wet a white cloth in the detergent solution and dab directly onto the stain. Rinse often and reapply as needed.

Once the feces stain has been removed, rinse the affected area with cold water and blot with a dry cloth. If any staining remains, apply a few drops of ammonia solution. Do not use bleach, oxygenated bleach or borax, as these substances may damage the fabric. If necessary, repeat steps 1-4 until the fabric appears clean.

Preventing FutureStains

Once you have successfully removed feces stain, you should always ensure to protect peau de soie fabric from further staining. Apply a fabric protector following the manufacturer's instructions and reapply at least once every six months. Alternatively, you can also use an enzyme-based laundry detergent. These detergents can penetrate deep into the fabric to break down stains and prevent them from setting.

Finally, be sure to blot the area immediately after a spill occurs and never rub fabric, as this may cause further damage. If necessary, soak the fabric in cold water for up to 30 minutes. Blot and dry fabric using a clean cloth, repeating the process until all excess moisture has been removed.
