Step One: Blot Out Excess Feces

Before getting started on the washing process, make sure as much of the excess mess is blotted out of the fabric as possible. Use a disposable paper towel or cloth to gently press against the affected area and absorb as much of the stain as you can.

Step Two: Pre-treat with Detergent

Fill a basin with lukewarm water, and then add a few drops of gentle liquid detergent to the mix. Stir the water and detergent together until it is well combined. Submerge the pajamas in the soapy solution, making sure the entire soiled area is soaked.

Step Three: Wash in a Machine

Put the pajamas in washing machine, along with a scoop of your usual laundry detergent. Set the washing machine to a warm water cycle and let the pajamas wash and spin. Once the cycle is finished, check to see if any spots remain. If they do, repeat steps two and three.

Step Four: Dry in the Sun

Hang the pajamas in direct sunlight after washing and allow them to air dry. The UV rays will help to further break down any remaining stains and deodorize the fabric. Don't put the pajamas in the dryer until you're sure the stains have been removed!

Tips for Success

  • Be sure to blot out excess feces from fabric first. This will help to prevent the stain from spreading when you soak the pajamas.
  • Make sure the water you use for pre-soaking is lukewarm. Hot water can set a stain in fabric, making it much harder to remove.
  • Don't put the pajamas in the dryer until you're certain that the stains have been completely removed.
  • Allow the pajamas to dry in direct sunlight, as UV rays will help break down any remaining stains.
