The first step in cleaning your mattress is to remove any visible feces. Make sure you don’t spread it around as you do so. Use paper towels or cleaning rags to scoop it up, and then place it in a sealed plastic bag for disposal.
Mix together equal parts borax and water to create a paste. Apply the paste to the area where feces was, rubbing it in with a soft rag. Allow it to sit for about 30 minutes before wiping it away.
Once you’ve wiped away the borax paste, apply a solution of water and white vinegar to the same area. Allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes. This will help to neutralize any remaining bacteria and odor.
After you’ve allowed the vinegar solution to sit for 10 minutes, sprinkle baking soda over the same area. This will help to absorb any remaining odors. Allow the baking soda to sit on the mattress for at least 30 minutes.
To complete the process, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the baking soda. This will help to suck up any remaining odors, leaving your mattress fresher and cleaner.
As a final step, mix a small amount of liquid laundry detergent into some warm water and use a clean rag to spot clean the area where the feces was located. This will help to disinfect and deodorize the mattress.
