Gather Supplies

Before starting, make sure to have the following supplies on hand:

  • Paper towels
  • Baking soda
  • Warm water
  • Mild detergent
  • Enzyme-based stain remover
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • White vinegar

Clean the Stain

The first step is to remove as much of solid material as possible. Use a spoon or paper towel to scoop up the feces. Once most of the material has been removed, wet the area affected with warm water. This will help break down and loosen the residual matter.

Pre-Treat the Stain

Next, sprinkle baking soda over the affected area of the leggings. The baking soda will help neutralize the odor and work in tandem with whatever cleaning solution you are going to use. Let the baking soda sit for 5-10 minutes before continuing.

Choose a Cleaning Agent

Use one of the following cleaning agents to help lift the stain from the fabric:

  • Mild Detergent: If a gentle solution is needed, mix mild detergent, such as dish soap or baby shampoo, with warm water and use this solution to blot the stain. Rinse the area with clean water afterwards.
  • Enzyme-Based Stain Remover: If a stronger solution is needed, spray an enzyme-based stain remover directly onto the stain and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Follow up by blotting area with a clean cloth.
  • Hydrogen Peroxide: Mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and warm water in a bowl and apply the solution to the stain. Let the area dry without rinsing afterwards.
  • White Vinegar: White vinegar is particularly effective at removing feces stains and odors. Mix 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts warm water and dab solution onto the affected area. Finish by blotting area with a paper towel.

Post-Treatment Care

Once the stain has been removed, make sure to rinse the area with cool water and allow the leggings to air dry. Once dry, inspect the area to make sure the stain is completely gone. You may want to consider treating entire garment afterward with a fabric refresher or anti-microbial spray.
