If a human or animal has left feces on your leather furniture, it’s best to act fast before the stain sets in. Start by using a paper towel to gently remove as much of the mess as possible. Make sure you don’t rub too harshly, as this could damage the leather.

Once most of the feces has been removed, dab some warm water onto the area with a clean cloth. If there is still some staining, you can use a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts cold water. With a cotton swab, apply the solution to the stain, being careful not rub too hard. Use a clean cloth dampened with water to rinse off the vinegar solution.

If the stain is still visible despite your cleaning efforts, you may want to try rubbing alcohol. Be sure to test alcohol on an inconspicuous part of the leather beforehand, to ensure that it won’t cause any discoloration. Dip a clean cloth into clean cold water and then into the rubbing alcohol. Apply the cloth to the stain and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse off any remaining alcohol with a wet cloth.

Alternatively, you can also use a mixture of one part dishwashing detergent and two parts water. Soak a cloth in the mixture, making sure to wring out any excess liquid, and then blot stain lightly. Don’t scrub stain, as this could cause further damage. Finally, rinse area with water.

No matter which of these methods you choose, be sure to thoroughly dry the leather afterwards. You can then use a leather cleaner or conditioner on the area to protect it from future stains.
