What You'll Need

  • Paper towels
  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Borax powder
  • Warm water
  • Old toothbrush (optional)
  • Sponge or cloth

Step 1: Blot Any Excess Feces

Start by using a few clean paper towels to blot up as much of the feces as possible. Do not rub or scrub stain, as this will only spread the mess further.

Step 2: Cover Remaining Stain in Detergent

Once you’ve blotted away any excess feces, sprinkle a liberal amount of liquid laundry detergent over the affected area. Allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes so it has enough time to break up the stain.

Step 3: Soak the Area With Vinegar

Take a container and combine equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Soak the stained area in the solution for one hour. The vinegar helps break down the proteins in the feces.

Step 4: Scrub the Area with Borax Powder

After soaking the area for an hour, sprinkle some borax powder onto the spot. Use an old toothbrush to scrub the paste into the fibers of the garment. Allow the borax paste to sit for 10 minutes and then rinse off with cool water.

Step 5: Rinse and Repeat Steps if Necessary

If the stain persists, you can repeat the above steps as necessary. Be sure to always test the above cleaning solutions on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first to ensure no damage will occur.

Final Step: Launder as Usual

Once stain is gone, launder the item in the washer as usual. Make sure to check the jacket carefully before placing it in dryer to make sure the stain is completely gone.
