The first step to removing feces stains from Irish crochet is to blot the area with clean, dry towels. Be careful not to rub too hard, as this could cause the stain to spread or set deeper into the fabric. Instead, gently pat the area so that the towels absorb much of the moisture from the feces.
Once you have blotted the area, you can pre-treat it with a mild detergent, such as a natural dish soap. Use a soft brush or sponge to lightly scrub the affected surface. Then rinse away the detergent with warm water.
Next, soak the fabric in a basin of warm water. This will help loosen and remove any remaining fecal matter from the fabric. Make sure to use only lukewarm water and leave the fabric in basin for at least 20 minutes before removing it.
Once the fabric has been soaked, apply a commercial stain remover to affected area. For the best results, use an enzyme-based cleaner specifically designed to break down organic matter, such as feces. Allow the stain remover to work on fabric for several minutes before rinsing it away.
Finally, machine wash the fabric hamper as you usually would, using a mild detergent. After washing, dry hamper in the dryer or hang it in a well-ventilated area. You can also iron the fabric for another layer of sanitation.
