The first step in your mission is to remove as much fecal matter from hat as possible. Start by wearing protective gloves to protect your hands from contamination and remove any solid pieces of waste with a paper towel or toilet paper and discard into a bag.
Once the solid pieces of waste have been removed, begin blotting the affected area with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. This will help absorb excess moisture and loosen any caked-on material. Continue blotting until no more moisture is being pulled up by the cloth.
The next step is to prepare a cleaning solution consisting of one teaspoon of dish detergent and one tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide. Mix the solution in a small bowl and begin gently scrubbing the area with a soft toothbrush. Let the solution sit on the stain for five minutes before rinsing with cool water.
If the stain remains after Step 3, mix equal parts enzyme detergent and oxygen bleach in a small bowl. Apply a generous amount of solution to the stain and allow it to sit for 30-60 minutes before rinsing with cool water. Follow up by blotting the area with a dry microfiber cloth.
If you still need to do some last minute cleaning, try using white vinegar. Dip a clean microfiber cloth in undiluted white vinegar and dab the stain until it disappears. Afterward, rinse hat with cool water and hang it up to air dry.
It may take some elbow grease, but you can successfully remove feces stains from a hat with the right cleaning supplies and a little patience. Good luck and happy cleaning!
