No one wants to clean up feces, but sometimes it's necessary. Whether you're dealing with pet messes or human waste, getting feces out of hair ties can feel like a daunting task. Fortunately, there's a relatively simple way to do it.

First things first, remove as much of the solid material as possible. Being careful not to smudge the mess around more than necessary, scrape away majority of the feces with a paper towel or disposable glove. This is an important step that will make the washing process much more effective.
Fill a sink or bowl with warm water and white vinegar. Make sure vinegar is diluted enough that it won't irritate your skin or eyes. Place the hair ties in the solution and let them soak for at least 20 minutes. This will help to break down the proteins and make them easier to clean.
Once the hair ties have soaked, they're ready to be washed. Place them in the washing machine and add detergent and 1/2 cup of baking soda. Run the machine on hottest setting and use the longest cycle. Afterwards, remove items from the washer and inspect them for any remaining stains.
Allow the hair ties to dry completely before storing them in a place where they won't be exposed to feces again. Regularly washing items with soft detergent and white vinegar will help keep them smelling fresh.
