The first step in removing any type of stain is to blot the affected area with a clean, white cloth. This will help to absorb as much of the feces as possible, reducing the amount of work you need to do later.
Once you've blotted the affected area, mix a small amount of laundry detergent with some warm water and gently rub the stained area with the solution. This will help to break down the feces and start the stain removal process.
Once the pre-treating is done, you'll want to soak the area in a basin of warm water and laundry detergent. Let the fabric sit in the solution for at least 30 minutes before proceeding.
After soaking the fabric, rinse it out in cold water until the stain and detergent are gone. This step is important to ensure that all residue has been removed.
Now that you've rinsed the fabric, it's time to put it in the washing machine with your regular detergent. Select the appropriate cycle based on fabric care instructions and add a cup of vinegar to the load. The vinegar will help to further break down the stain and leave your gingham looking fresh and new.
Once the washing cycle is done, hang your gingham up to air dry. If you prefer, you can also tumble dry it on a low heat setting for best results.
