Tools Needed
- Cold water
- Mild soap or detergent
- White vinegar
- Oxygenated bleach
- Clean towels
Steps
- Start by flushing the area with cold water. Do this for several minutes in order to help dilute the fecal matter.
- Create a cleaning solution by combining mild soap/detergent with cold water. Then, gently blot the stained area with a clean towel soaked in the solution.
- If the stain remains, dissolve 1 tablespoon of oxygenated bleach in 1 quart of cold water, then use another clean towel to apply the mixture directly to stain.
- Allow mixture to sit for 5-10 minutes.
- Flush with cold water and allow the fabric to air dry or lightly pat it dry with a clean towel.
- For stubborn stains, add 1 cup of white vinegar to ¼ gallon of cold water. Soak the stained area in the solution for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse with cold water and let the fabric air dry.
Tips
- Make sure to use cold water only throughout the process so as not to set the stain.
- Never use hot water, since it will cause the stain to set into the fabric.
- Avoid scrubbing fabric too hard as it may damage the delicate threads of the Duchesse lace.
- Always check for colorfastness on an inconspicuous area before attempting to clean stained fabrics.
