Gathering Right Cleaning Materials

We’ll start by gathering right materials for job. Dobby’s clothes need to be treated gently, so make sure you’re using a mild detergent with lukewarm water to prevent shrinking and color fading. You’ll also need paper towels, a scrub brush, an old toothbrush, white vinegar, baking soda and household ammonia.

Step One: Soak and Pre-Treat

Be sure to check the Dobby’s clothes tag for any special laundry instructions. Then, create a mixture of one quart of lukewarm water, one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid, and one tablespoon of white vinegar. Submerge the stained garment in this mixture and let it soak for several hours.

Once it’s had time to soak, take the garment out and discard the liquid. Now it’s time to pre-treat spot. Gently rub the area with a mixture of one teaspoon of baking soda, one teaspoon of ammonia, and one tablespoon of oxygen-based laundry detergent. Allow these ingredients to sit on the stain for 30 minutes.

Step Two: Scrub and Rinse

After pre-treatment has done its thing, scrub the area with an up-and-down motion using a clean, stiff-bristled brush. If the stain is still present, mix a paste of baking soda and laundry detergent and apply it directly to the spot. Work the paste into stain using an old, clean toothbrush. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Step Three: Wash and Check

To finish up the process, throw Dobby’s clothes into the washing machine along with mild detergent and a cup of white vinegar. Accessorize with a warm-water cycle and you’re ready to go. After the wash, check the stain—if it’s still there, try repeating steps two and three one or two more times.
