Steps To Follow

  1. The first step is to scrape away as much of the solid residue as possible. You can do this by using a butter knife or similar tool.
  2. Blot the area with a damp cloth to absorb as much of the liquid feces as possible.
  3. Mix 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid in 250 ml (1 cup) of warm water.
  4. Using a clean cloth, apply and rub the mixture over the stain in a circular motion.
  5. Use a brush to scrub affected area gently.
  6. Rinse the area with cold water, and blot with a dry cloth to absorb excess moisture.
  7. Prepare a solution of oxygen-based bleach, laundry detergent and warm water according to instructions on the packaging.
  8. Using a clean cloth, dab the mixture onto the stained area. Allow it to sit for at least 15 minutes before rinsing it off.
  9. Machine wash item in the warmest water setting the fabric can handle. If possible, include a pre-soak prior to washing.
  10. Inspect the garment and repeat the process if necessary.

Things to Remember

  • When dealing with feces stains, time is of the essence; the sooner you can address the problem, the better the chances of successful removal.
  • Always test any cleaning agent on an inconspicuous area of the fabric before applying it to stain.
  • If garment is delicate or has been treated with a special finish, seek professional assistance.
