Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

The first step to getting rid of a feces stain is to pre-treat the area. Use a spray cleaner or a laundry pre-treatment product. Work the product into the stain with a scrub brush. Let the product sit for 10 minutes before washing.

Step 2: Wash Fabric

Once you have pre-treated stain, put the fabric in the washing machine. Use the hottest water setting that is safe for the fabric and add a heavy-duty detergent. If you have a very tough stain, you may need to use extra detergent or a color-safe bleach. It’s a good idea to soak the fabric overnight too.

Step 3: Check the Stain before Drying

Before you put the fabric in the dryer, check to see if the stain is still visible. If it is, you may need to repeat the pre-treatment and washing process. You can also try using a carpet cleaner or spot remover if the stain persists.

Step 4: Dry and Check Again

Once all traces of the stain are gone, you can put fabric in the dryer. You may want to set the temperature lower than normal to reduce chance of the stain setting. Once the fabric is dry, inspect it one last time. If any traces of stain remain, repeat above steps until the stain is completely gone.
