The best approach for removing feces stains is to work quickly and use the right products. First, try to scrape off as much of the feces as possible with a spoon or spatula. You can then use paper towels to dab away any lingering wetness on the fabric.

Tools and Materials

  • Spoon or spatula
  • Paper towels
  • Cotton swabs
  • Laundry detergent
  • Oxygen bleach
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • White vinegar
  • Borax powder

Steps for Removing Feces Stains

  1. Use a spoon or spatula to scrape off as much of the feces as possible.
  2. Dab the affected area with a paper towel to remove any remaining wetness.
  3. Mix laundry detergent and oxygen bleach in a bucket with warm water and soak the item for several hours.
  4. Rinse the item well and place it in the washing machine, adding a bit of hydrogen peroxide to help break down the stain.
  5. Run it through a regular cycle.
  6. If the stain persists, add one cup of white vinegar to washing machine when it is nearly finished filling with water. Allow the clothing to agitate for a few minutes before turning it off and letting it sit for an hour.
  7. Re-start the cycle and add one cup of Borax powder to the wash water.
  8. Rinse the item one more time and hang it to dry.

Additional Tips

  • Always check the garment’s label to determine what type of products and techniques are suitable for fabric.
  • For harder to remove stains, a stain remover product may be needed. Read labels carefully and test an inconspicuous area before using a stain remover.
  • Launder items as soon as possible. The longer the stains sits, the harder it will be to remove.
