Step 1: Pretreat the Stain

Before you begin cleaning any kind of stain, it is important to pretreat it first. Start by gently scraping off any solid matter with a spoon. Once the area is free of any debris, use a prewash stain remover. Make sure to read the instructions on the bottle carefully and apply the remover evenly to the stained area. Allow the product to sit for 10-15 minutes before proceeding to the next steps.

Step 2: Soak in Cold Water

Fill up a large basin or sink with cold water and submerge the garment, making sure that the affected area is completely covered. Let ball gown soak for 30 minutes, then gently press the stained areas in the water without rubbing or scrubbing. After soaking, empty the basin and refill with fresh cold water.

Step 3: Laundry Detergent and Vinegar

Make a solution of 1/4 cup laundry detergent and 1/2 cup vinegar and mix until detergent is completely dissolved. Pour this solution into the basin of cold water and submerge garment again, allowing it to soak for a few more hours. Once solution has worked its magic, drain the basin and rinse the garment in a separate basin filled with cold water.

Step 4: Put It Through the Washing Machine

After ball gown has been properly soaked and rinsed off, it’s time to give it a thorough wash in washing machine. Put the garment into the washer and set it to the delicate setting using cold water and the mildest detergent you have. Allow the cycle to finish and once it has, check to make sure that the stain has been thoroughly removed.

Step 5: Dry Cleaning

If the stain still persists after the above steps have been completed, it’s time to take garment to the dry cleaner. A professional cleaner is likely to use a special product that is designed to lift out tough stains with minimal damage to delicate fabrics. Make sure to inform cleaner of the type of stain you are trying to get rid of so they can use the most appropriate treatment.

Step 6: Air Dry

Once dry cleaning process is done, it’s important to air dry the ball gown rather than putting it into the dryer. Hang the dress in a well-ventilated area and allow it to air dry completely before beginning the ironing process.
