The first step in cleaning Venetian lace is to identify the stain. Eye shadow is usually fairly easy to spot due to its distinctive color, but in some cases, the stain may have been sitting for an extended period of time and may have spread. Once you’ve identified the stain, you can move on to the next step.
Once the eye shadow stain has been identified, you’ll want to pre-treat it with a stain remover. While you can use a regular laundry or dish detergent for this step, you may want to opt for a dedicated stain remover to help dissolve the oil-based makeup. Apply a generous amount of the stain remover directly onto stain and allow it to sit for a few minutes before moving on to the next step.
After you’ve pre-treated the stain, you’ll need to wash the lace. To do this, fill your sink or basin with cold water and add a mild detergent. Gently submerge lace and allow it to soak for a few minutes before agitating it gently with your hands. Do not scrub the lace as this could damage delicate fabric. Once you’ve finished washing it, rinse the lace thoroughly with cold water.
Once you’ve washed the lace, it is important to make sure it is completely dry before you store it away. To dry the lace, hang it up in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Make sure to leave enough space between the lace and the wall so air can circulate freely. Allow the lace to dry completely before storing or wearing it.
