The first step is identifying what type of fabric you’re dealing with. Eye shadow comes off of some fabrics easier than others. Natural and synthetic fabrics are the easiest, while silk and delicate fabrics may require a gentler cleaning method. Once you’ve identified the fabric, you’ll want to start by mixing one tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent or dish soap with two cups of warm water.
Using a cloth or sponge, gently dab at eye shadow stain using your soap mixture. Be sure to go in a circular motion and avoid rubbing or scrubbing the area too hard. You don’t want to spread the stain or damage the fabric. If the stain is still visible, move onto other cleaning methods.
One way to quickly remove eye shadow stains is to use a household cleaner such as Oxyclean or Shout. Just apply a small amount directly to the stain and rub it in gently. Let it sit for about five minutes and then blot it with a damp rag. Repeat the process if necessary until the stain is removed.
If you’re dealing with a particularly stubborn stain, you can also try making a paste out of baking soda and water. Rub the paste onto the stain and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then, use a damp cloth to wipe away the paste and the stain should come right off.
If stain is still there after trying all of these methods, it’s time to break out the heavy-duty cleaners. Spot treatments like Zout or Shout Color Catcher are great for removing tough stains. Just follow instructions on the package and stain should be completely gone.
With a few simple steps, you can get those pesky eye shadow stains out of your favorite top in no time. That way, you can keep rocking those bold looks without worrying about getting makeup smears on your clothes.
