Eye shadows are often made with oily ingredients, which means that traditional stain removal strategies might not work. To tackle the tough grease and pigment embedded deep into the fabric, you need to use a special method. Here's what to do.
Before going in with any cleaning agents, it's essential to pre-treat the stain. Take a clean, dry cloth and press it firmly against the affected area to absorb the excess pigment. For set-in stains, you might need to use a soft-bristled brush to rub the fabric and loosen the particles.
For oily stains like eye shadow, an enzyme-based cleaner is your best bet. Make your own cleaning mixture by combining equal parts enzyme detergent and warm water. You can find enzyme detergent at most supermarkets or online.
Using a soft cloth, apply the cleaning solution directly to the stained area. Work the cleaner into the fibers of the fabric using gentle circular motions. Let the cleaner sit for about 10 minutes to allow the enzymes to break down eye shadow.
Once the cleaner has had a chance to work its magic, rinse the affected area with lukewarm water. Then, launder the fabric according to the care instructions. Be sure to use cold water and a mild detergent if available.
If you can still see traces of the stain after laundering, repeat steps 1 to 4 until it is completely gone. You may also need to treat the stain with a different cleaning agent, such as dish soap or white vinegar.
