Shantung is a lightweight and slightly textured silk fabric that is usually found in more expensive clothing. When cleaning shantung, it is important to use gentle methods, as harsh chemicals can damage the fabric.

The best way to remove an eye shadow stain from shantung is to first scrape off any excess eyeshadow with a blunt knife or spoon. Next, lightly dampen the stained area with a clean, damp cloth and blot with a clean white absorbent towel.

Mix 1 teaspoon of a mild liquid detergent with 1 cup of warm water. Dip a clean cloth into this solution and gently dab at stained area. Do not rub too hard as this could damage the fabric. Avoid using chlorine bleach as it can cause discoloration and weaken the fabric.

Once the stain has been removed, rinse the area with cold water. Allow the fabric to air dry completely before wearing or storing.

For tough stains, mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water. Use a clean cloth to apply the solution to the stain and allow it to sit. After a few minutes, rinse with cold water and dab with a clean absorbent cloth.

Finally, test a small hidden area of the fabric before applying any cleaner to the entire stain to ensure no discoloration occurs.
