Step One: Blot Stain

The first step in removing an eye shadow stain is to closely examine it and blot any excess pigment away from fabric with a clean, white cloth. Be sure to gently press down and dab the area – never rub, as this can spread the stain further. Repeat this step until no more color is coming off the fabric.

Step Two: Treat with Stain Remover

Next, spray the stain with a pre-treatment stain remover designed specifically for eye shadows. This can usually be found in the beauty section of grocery stores and drugstores. Let the product sit on the stain for a few minutes, then gently work it into the fabric with a toothbrush. Once the product is worked into the fabric, rinse it away with cool water.

Step Three: Wash the Fabric

Once stain has been treated with the eye shadow remover, place the fabric in the washing machine with a standard detergent. Set the machine to its hottest setting that is safe for the fabric, and select a normal wash cycle. Allow the machine to complete cycle before examining the garment for any lingering eye shadow stains.

Step Four: Examine and Repeat

After placing fabric in the washing machine, check it for any lingering eye shadow stains. If there are still traces of color, repeat Step Two followed by Step Three until the garment is free of eye shadow stains. When finished, hang the fabric to air dry.
