Eye shadow is one of the most commonly used beauty products and when applied properly it can really enhance your look. Unfortunately, eye shadow has a tendency to get onto clothing and leave behind stubborn stains. Nylon fabrics like nylon stockings or lingerie can especially be difficult to clean.

What You Will Need

  • A washing machine
  • Liquid detergent
  • Borax powder
  • White vinegar
  • Laundry stain remover (optional)

Step-By-Step Instructions

  1. As soon as possible, remove the stained garment and rinse any excess eye shadow off under cold running water.
  2. If the stain is still visible, mix one tablespoon of liquid detergent, one tablespoon of Borax powder, and one tablespoon of white vinegar in a bowl of warm water. Soak the stained garment for about an hour before washing.
  3. Put the garment in the washing machine with a standard load of laundry and wash according to the garment’s care instructions.
  4. If stain remains after washing, apply a laundry stain remover to the affected area and allow it to sit for five minutes before washing again.
  5. Check the garment before drying and if the stain has not been completely removed, repeat steps 3 and 4.

Tips & Tricks

  • Be sure to use a laundry detergent that is specifically formulated for delicate fabrics when washing nylon.
  • Never use hot water to wash nylon fabrics, as this could cause the fabric to shrink or damage fibers.
  • Do not place garment in dryer until the stain has been completely removed.
