Step 1: Identify The Fabric Of Immediate Concern

The type of fabric you’re working with will determine the best approach to cleaning. Take special care when removing makeup from delicate fabrics such as silk, wool, velvet, and tweed. For these materials, it’s best to take caution and test a small area before applying any cleaning method.

Step 2: Blot The Stain With A Clean Cloth

It may be tempting to rub the stained area, but this can lead to further damage. Instead, use a clean white cloth or paper towel to gently blot stain—this will help absorb some of the eye shadow pigments. Do not apply too much pressure, as this could cause the stain to spread.

Step 3: Create A Mild Detergent Solution

Mix one cup of cool water with a mild detergent, such as Woolite or OMO. Dip a clean cloth in solution, then slowly blot stained area. Work from the outside of the stain towards the center to prevent it from spreading. Allow the detergent solution to penetrate for a few minutes before rinsing the fabric in cool water.

Step 4: Use An Alcohol-Based Cleaner

If the detergent solution doesn’t do the trick, try using an alcohol-based cleaner to remove the stain. An all-purpose cleaner or rubbing alcohol will work for most fabrics. Once again, start from the outside of stain and work your way in. If the fabric has a waterproof coating, don’t use an alcohol-based cleaner.

Step 5: Launder According To Fabric Instructions

Once the stain has been removed, wash the fabric according to the instructions on the tag. Place the article of clothing in the washing machine with warm or cold water and your usual detergent. Always air dry fabrics to preserve the shape and feel.

Conclusion

Eye shadow stains on coats don’t have to mean the end of your favorite piece of clothing. By following the above steps, you can restore the fabric and have it looking as good as new. As long as you act quickly, you can easily remove stubborn eye shadow marks at home.
