Chambray often comes in a variety of colors and light shades, making it a great choice for warm-weather outfits. Unfortunately, the fabric’s lightweight construction makes it more prone to absorbing oils or other stains from makeup products.
The first step is to find out what type of material is used to make the shirt. Depending on the fabric, different cleaning solutions may be required. Chambray shirts are typically made of cotton, and that's what we are focusing on.
To start, treat the stained area by gently dabbing it with rubbing alcohol. Then let it sit for a few minutes so that the solution can dissolve the pigment. Afterward, rinse the garment with cold water.
If the stain persists, mix together 1/3 cup of laundry detergent, 1/4 cup of baking soda, and one tablespoon of white vinegar into two quarts of lukewarm water. Soak the fabric in this mixture for about half an hour. Then lightly scrub the stained area with a sponge. Finally, rinse the garment with cold water until the stain lifts.
To prevent future stains, try to avoid apply makeup directly on your chambray garment. If you need to apply makeup, wear an old t-shirt or apron for extra protection. Also, make sure to always check the label on the shirt before attempting to wash them. If the fabric is made of a blend, then it’s best to bring it to a dry cleaner.
