You will need a few items to help with process:
Before attempting to remove the stain, you should always test how colorfast the fabric is. To do this, put a drop of cold water on a small spot of the lace and allow it to sit for a few seconds before dabbing it off. If the water absorbs into the fabric and doesn’t leave a discoloration, then you are good to proceed.
Gently massage soap into the stained area with your fingers. Make sure not to scrub too hard as you don’t want to damage the lace. Allow the soap to soak in for a few minutes before moving onto the next step.
Using the toothbrush, gently scrub the stained area until the eye shadow begins to come off. Make sure to use gentle, circular motions. Don’t scrub too hard or you may end up damaging the lace fabric.
Once you have removed as much of eye shadow as possible, rinse the area with cold water. You can either do this by running the lace under a tap or by dipping it into a bowl of cold water. Again, make sure to be gentle with the fabric.
Once your lace is dry, you can use a cool iron to press the fibers back into place. This will help to restore the shape of the lace and make it look as good as new.
Thankfully, removing eye shadow stains from Carrickmacross lace isn’t as difficult as it may seem. With the right materials and technique, you can easily restore your lace to its original beauty.
