What You Need
- Liquid laundry detergent
- White vinegar
- Unscented dish soap
- Clean washcloth
- Ice cubes
- Stain remover (optional)
Step-by-Step Guide
- If you are cleaning a dry stain, use a spoon or dull knife to scrape off any remaining eye shadow residue.
- Dampen a clean washcloth with lukewarm water and dab the stained area gently.
- Mix one tablespoon of liquid laundry detergent with two tablespoons of white vinegar, and apply directly to eye shadow stain.
- Gently rub fabric together and let it soak in the mixture for 5 minutes.
- Rinse the fabric with warm water and dab with a clean cloth to help remove stain.
- If the stain persists, mix one tablespoon of unscented dish soap with two tablespoons of white vinegar and apply it to the stain. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Rinse fabric with lukewarm water and inspect again.
- If the stain has not yet been removed, apply a small amount of stain remover to the stained area and let it sit for an additional 10 minutes.
- Rinse the fabric with cold water and dab dry with a clean cloth.
- If stain is still present, place a few ice cubes in a plastic bag and place it directly over the stained area. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Remove ice cubes and rinse the fabric one last time.
- Repeat steps 2 through 11 until stain has been completely removed.
- For best results, machine wash the item as soon as possible after treating the stubborn stain.
Tips for Success
- Use a gentle scrubbing motion when using the soap and vinegar mixture to avoid any damage to fabric.
- Avoid using hot water as it may set the stain into the fabric permanently.
- Always test spot treating methods on a non-visible part of the fabric before proceeding.
- Be sure to treat the stain as quickly as possible after it occurs in order to increase your chances of success.
