Eye makeup is meant to be applied on the eyes, not on dresses! However, it is not uncommon for eye makeup to find its way on dresses from time to time. A-Line dresses are especially vulnerable to staining since they tend to be made from lightweight, thin, and often delicate fabrics such as chiffon.
Whether stain is fresh or has been on the fabric for some time, here are the steps you can take to help remove it.
Removing Fresh Eye Shadow Stains
- Start by blotting the area with a dry cloth to absorb more of the eye shadow.
- Use a makeup remover or rubbing alcohol to saturate the stain.
- Next, rub the area gently with a cloth in a circular motion to help lift the stain away.
- Finally, rinse the cloth with warm water and use it to dab the area and rinse away the cleaner.
Removing Set-In Eye Shadow Stains
- Begin by soaking the stained area in warm water for 15 minutes.
- Mix a solution of equal parts dish detergent and white vinegar.
- Apply the mixture to the stain and scrub with a cloth in a circular motion.
- Rinse the area thoroughly with warm water and blot the area dry.
Tips for Preventing Eye Shadow Stains
- Always apply your eye makeup before you put on your dress.
- Be sure to put a cloth or tissue over your clothes while applying eye makeup.
- Have a quick look in the mirror before heading out – you don’t want any smudges on your clothes!
