Using a clean cloth or paper towel, blot the area with warm water. Blotting will help to absorb and remove some of the mess. Be sure not to rub, as this can push the liquid further into the fabric.
Mix together a solution of one part white vinegar to three parts cold water. Using a spray bottle, apply the solution to the stained area. Let it sit for about five minutes, then gently rub the area with a clean cloth.
For tougher stains, you may need to use a commercial stain remover. Follow the directions on the product label and, if possible, test it first in an inconspicuous area. Depending on product, you may need to let it sit for a few minutes before blotting it, or you may need to rinse and blot area after application.
Fill a spray bottle with a solution of one part mild liquid detergent, such as dish soap, to four parts cold water. Spray the area lightly and let the solution sit for a few minutes. Use a damp clean cloth to wipe away the remaining residue and follow up with a dry cloth.
Allow the fabric to air dry naturally or use a low-heat setting on your blow dryer. Do not use a higher heat setting, as this may set the stain in permanently. Once the area is dry, brush the fabric with the direction of pile.
With just a few simple steps, you can easily clean diaper stains from velvet fabric. Taking a few minutes to pre-treat the area and carefully apply a stain remover can make all the difference in achieving a successful end result.
