The first step in removing a diaper stain is to act fast. Use a soft cloth or paper towel to gently blot the stained area as soon as possible. Avoid rubbing the stain since this could cause it to spread further. Blot up as much of wetness as you can, but be careful not to press too hard to avoid pushing the stain deeper into the fabric.
Once the majority of the wetness has been removed, pre-treat the area with a good quality stain remover. Read the directions before applying to ensure you are using the product correctly. Leave the stain remover on stain for five to ten minutes before rinsing with some cool water.
If the stain remains after pre-treating, the next step is to launder the item in a washer. Be sure to use a color safe detergent specifically designed for the fabric on garment. Add the detergent to the washer, then set the cycle to a warm temperature and add the garment. Let the washing machine do its job and then check the stain when the cycle is complete.
If you find that stain is still present after laundering, there are additional steps you can take. Try using a vinegar solution to help break down stain. Mix equal parts of white vinegar and cold water and apply directly to the area. Let it sit for about fifteen minutes before blotting the area and laundering one last time. Hang the item in direct sunlight as this can be an effective way to naturally remove stubborn stains.
