Before beginning the cleaning process, the first step is to pre-treat the stain with a gentle laundry detergent or stain remover. Create a solution by combining 1 tablespoon of laundry detergent or stain remover with 1 cup of warm water. You can also use a product specifically made for diaper stains. Gently scrub the solution into the stained area using a soft brush or cloth.
Once you’ve pre-treated stain, next step is to machine wash the item. To ensure a thorough washing, add a ½ cup of baking soda to the machine along with appropriate amount of detergent. Set machine to a “normal/warm” wash cycle. After washing, hang the item up to air dry.
If stain persists, it’s time to break out the vinegar. Mix together equal parts white vinegar and cold water in a bowl. Using a cloth or brush, dab the mixture onto the stain and then rinse with cold water. Once the spot is cleaned, hang the item out to air dry.
Getting rid of diaper stains on tents and camping gear doesn’t have to be a hassle. With a few simple steps, you can easily remove any stubborn stains, leaving your gear looking better than ever. All you need to do is to pre-treat, machine wash, and spot clean with vinegar. Keep in mind that if stain is particularly stubborn, it’s best to call in professional cleaning services.
