1. Soak the Stained Item
The first step in cleaning diaper stains from taffeta is to soak item in a mixture of cold water and mild laundry detergent. Allow it to sit for at least 30 minutes before laundering as usual. This helps to loosen the stains, making them easier to remove.
2. Apply a Stain Removing Product
If soaking the stained item doesn’t remove all of the stains, you can try using a specialized stain remover or a natural option like vinegar or baking soda. For best results, apply the product directly to the stain and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes before laundering as usual.
3. Pretreat Stain with Detergent
If the stain is still visible after soaking and applying a stain remover, try pretreating it with a laundry detergent. Apply a small amount of the detergent directly to the stain and rub it in gently with a damp cloth. Allow the detergent to sit for about 10 minutes before laundering as usual.
4. Use an Oxygen-Based Bleach
If the stain persists, you may need to use an oxygen-based bleach to remove it. This type of bleach is safe for use on most fabrics, but read the instructions on the package carefully to make sure it won’t damage your taffeta fabric.
5. Launder According to Instructions
Finally, always be sure to follow the care instructions on the clothing label when laundering the item. Taffeta is a delicate fabric that requires special care, so be sure to use a gentle cycle and a mild laundry detergent to prevent further damage.
