Remove Fresh Diaper Stains From Silk

If you catch the diaper stain early and it is still wet, choose one of these two methods:

  • Mix ¼ cup of white vinegar and two drops of mild liquid dish soap, such as Dawn®, into one cup of warm water. Soak a clean washcloth in the solution, then press it onto the soiled area. Dab or blot gently to avoid damaging the fibers.
  • Using a different clean cloth, blot (do not rub) stain with a dry-cleaning solvent. Read the label to make sure the product is safe to use on silk. After applying the solvent, let the fabric air dry.

Remove Stale Diaper Stains From Silk

If the diaper has been there for a while and has had a chance to dry and set, take these steps:

  1. Apply a paste of equal parts salt and white vinegar to the stain. Let the mixture sit for at least 10 minutes, then rinse away with cold water.
  2. Mix ½ teaspoon of dishwashing detergent with one cup of warm water. Soak a clean, white cloth in the sudsy water, then slowly and gently wring out the excess liquid. Gently blot the top of the stain until the diaper stain is removed.
  3. If any stain remains, use method above to apply a dry-cleaning solvent.

Tips

  1. Always check care label before washing or attempting to clean silk. Follow the cleaning instructions provided.
  2. If you are unsure what type of silk you are dealing with, test an area that is less visible first.
  3. Do not rub stain harshly; be gentle with your fabric.
  4. Always air dry your silk after cleaning.
