When it comes to preventing diaper stains from setting in, best advice is to act quickly. If you see the stain happening, stop and treat it immediately. Gently blot the fabric with a paper towel, taking care not to rub or scrub stain.

Once the initial liquid is absorbed, rinse the fabric in cold water. Make sure to use a light hand when rinsing, as rubbing or scrubbing fabric could cause the stain to spread. Rinse it out until the water runs clear.

After the fabric has been rinsed in cold water, you’ll need to apply a stain remover. Use an enzyme-based detergent such as Tide Plus A Touch of Downy or a similar product, adding it directly to the fabric and gently scrubbing it into the stain. Be sure to let the detergent sit according to manufacturer’s instructions; this will give it time to work its magic.

When it’s time to put the shirt in the wash, turn it inside out before placing it in the washer. This will help prevent the stain from getting worse during washing process. If the stain seems to be lingering, add a cup of white vinegar to the washing machine during the rinse cycle.

After washing, inspect the fabric for any remaining staining. If there is any remaining discoloration, you may need to repeat the previous steps again. For stubborn stains, you may need to turn to a professional dry cleaner.

Diaper stains don’t have to be permanent. With a little bit of effort and the right cleaning methods, you can remove those pesky stains quickly and easily.
