Tackling Diaper Stains on Clothing

If a diaper has leaked or exploded onto a clothing item, it’s best to act quickly. Begin by removing excess material and rinsing fabric immediately with cold water. This prevents the stain from setting into the fabric. It may also be beneficial to use an enzyme-based detergent, such as Tide Plus Febreze Sport, to help break down the proteins found in the urine.

Additional Cleaners to Remove Stains

If the stain remains after laundering, there are additional ways to remove it. One method is to prepare a mixture of half water and half vinegar. Rub a clean cloth into the mixture and then gently rub the stain in a circular motion. If stain persists, use a citrus-based cleaner, like Lemon Juice, and repeat this method until all traces of the stain are gone. You may then want to rewash the clothing item in cold water.

Keeping Ponchos Stain Free

In addition to cleaning up existing stains, there are a few things you can do to prevent stains from occurring in the future. Consider using an absorbent diaper liner such as Dri-Nites, which helps lock in moisture away from clothing. Additionally, double check for any signs of leaks, such as wetness on backside of the poncho, which could indicate a faulty diaper. Also, always make sure the diaper fit is snug to reduce the chance of a leak.
